We are so glad you’re interested in helping preserve history! Our project is powered entirely by volunteers, and there are two ways you can contribute:
This is the most direct way to help and the easiest way to start immediately! You don’t need any special equipment or prior approval—just a camera or smartphone and a passion for local history.
Take Photos: Visit any cemetery and photograph gravestones. Every photo you take provides a vital record for a researcher who may not be able to visit in person.
Upload & Transcribe: As you upload, you’ll enter the names and dates shown on the stone. This makes the record searchable for everyone.
Add New Cemeteries: If the cemetery isn’t in our system yet, you can select “Add a New Cemetery” for that county during the upload process.
Start Today: You can begin contributing right now. Many of our volunteers have uploaded thousands of photos, building an incredible resource for their communities one stone at a time.
If you are looking to "take things up a notch," you may be interested in becoming a County Coordinator. These volunteers manage the records for a specific area and handle the approval of new submissions.
Availability: Many of our counties already have dedicated coordinators. However, we are always happy to check if a specific county you are passionate about is currently open or needs additional support.
The Role: This involves reviewing incoming photos and transcriptions for accuracy and acting as a local point of contact for the project.
Inquire: If you’re interested in an administrative role, please Contact Us with the name of the county you'd like to support, and we can let you know if there is an opening.
